MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest conservation area and and one of the most visited tourist destination in Africa. The 3,840Km2 land, murchison falls is most electrifying sight of its own type in East Africa, This magnificent waterfall is transformed into a an explosive froth of thunderous White water as it funnels through a narrow gorge of 7m wide and 45m deep. Murchison Falls National Park offers great chances of wildlife viewing with lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and Rothschild’s giraffe which are particularly common on the northern side of the park.
It’s Impressive population of animals and superb activities are well augmented by its location, which straddles the Victoria Nile as it makes its way through multiple rapids and waterfalls (including the stunning and impressive Murchison Falls) to Lake Albert. Murchison Falls is an exceptional place to see wildlife and a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls should not be missed, not least in order to see lots of water species and taking a 45minutee hike to the top of the powerful Murchison Falls up close, a simply unforgettable experience.
BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Bwindi is Uganda’s most important tourist hostspot it protects a rugged landscape of steep hills and valleys boadering Congo in the south and north of kisoro. The park is covered in thick and foggy jungle and the views are just as spectacular. The 331-sq-km World Heritage–Sight, Bwindi provides shelter to on of Africa’s most diverse mammalian fauna’s, including 50% of the famous mountain gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Africa’s most ancient habitats, even surviving the last Ice Age as most of the continent's other forests disappeared.
The main activity in bwindi is Gorilla tracking and it was established in 1993 at buhoma Park headquarters and now the park operates out of four different locations. Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo are the other selected locations for the gorilla tracking experience in Bwindi.
There is 11 habituated and three semi habituated Gorilla families that can be tracked in bwindi. The combination of broad altitude span (1160m to 2607m) and its antiquity which has produced an incredible diversity of flora and fauna and this has resulted into some 120 mammal species and over 350 bird species calling Bwindi home.
QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Deriving its name from the historic English explorer Samuel Baker, Baker’s Lodge is nestled on the Southern bank of the Nile River in Murchison Falls National Park. This intimate, safari styled lodge is set within a large private area with direct river access, large shady trees and wetland areas hosting abundant birdlife along the water’s edge. The views onto the river are vast and magnificent with islands hosting nesting egret birds, elephants bathing and pods of hippos regularly viewed
KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
Kidepo is one of the most remote safari destinations in Africa and it is the most notable for harbouring a number of wildlife animals that are not found anywhere else in Uganda, including caracal, cheaters, bat eared fox and greater and lesser kudus. It is one of the most alluring safari destinations, combining rugged mountain scenery and compelling wilderness atmosphere with some exceptional good game viewing particularly in the narus valley with its dense populations of zebras, Elephants, bushbuck, giraffes, lions, jackals, leopards, hyenas and Nile crocodiles. The park also retains a genuinely off the beaten track experience compared to other safari destinations in Uganda. The rolling, short-grass savannah of the 1442-sq-km park is ringed by mountains and cut by rocky ridges. Amazingly, most of the animals, including even the occasional lion, are content to graze and lounge right near the park accommodation, so you can see a whole lot without going very far – a kind of armchair safari.
Kidepo is Uganda’s third largest national park and this park lies in the far northeast of karamoja subregion, bordering South Sudan in the northwest and and only 5km from the eastern border with Kenya.
LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
Lake mburo national park is located in western Uganda and it was gazettes in 1982. The park harbors several land mammals which are not easily observed anywhere in Uganda. Lake mburo national park is also the best place to see Zebras in Uganda and this park supports the country’s only remaining population of impala, the hand some antelope for which kampala got its name from. Other wildlife species that are seen in lake mburo are are Waterbuck, common duiker, Zebras, leopards, warthogs bohor reedbuck, topi, oribi and errand. The Park covers an area of 260sq km, with mainly woodland Savanah and scattered acacia trees.
This is one of the parks where visitors are allowed to do a walking Safari, cycling safari and horseback riding with accompanment of a ranger. Lake mburo is also famous for the remarkable long horned cattle, a breed of cattle that is commonly seen in western parts of Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Kibale is a lush tropical forest, said to have the highest density of primates in the world, The top attraction is chimpanzee trekking. This park covers 560-sq-km land it is located 35km southeast of fortpotal. Kibale national park supports The greatest primate diversity and thrilling variety of bird species.
The park is home for several forest species like Colombus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, chimpanzees, sitatungas, civets, duikers and forest buffaloes and Uganda’s largest concentration of forest elephants. The park is nestled within the longtude band of volcanic calderas that run west of the park border from fortpotal.
MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
Mghahinga national park was gazettes in 1991, It covers 34sq km, but the tropical rain forest cloaking in the volcanoes is another gorilla habitat. The park offers panoramic views that stretch northward to bwindi and southern skyline dominated by the steep volcanic mountains of virunga ranges. The park is contiguous with the Parc de des volcanoes in Rwanda and Virunga national park in Congo. The main tourist attraction in mghahinga is Gorilla trekking with one habituated family of Gorillas. Other activities include golden monkey trekking, hiking and walking, bird watching and batwa cultural trail. The park hobours 76 mammals species includes mountain Gorillas, golden monkeys, duikers, leopards, forest elephants, black and white colobus monkeys giant forest hog, forest buffaloes, bushbuck, bats and small predators like savo cats. Mghahinga national park also hosts 119 species of birds including 12 species which are albertine rift endemic.
SIIPI FALLS
Siipi falls is the most popular starting point for different hikes to Mount elgon. Hikking around the falls offers stunning views of the Eastern Rift Valley and Lake Kyoga. With a cooler climate than most of the country Sipi Falls is a nice place to unwind, relax and literally chill out away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities. Siipi falls is located on the foothills of Mt. Elgon and it offers a number of alternative activities to the mainstream river activities in and around Siipi falls area. Activities include hiking around the local area and visiting the local waterfalls, Abseiling, coffee tours and community tours.
JINJA
Jinja city is a well-organized city in eastern Uganda with beautiful nature and surrounded by waters and green hills. Jinja is where the source of the Nile river is located. Jinja is the adrenaline capital of East Africa and activities like white-water rafting, bunjee jumping, quad biking, kayaking and horse back riding are the activities that make jinja very famous to the international travelers.
